Trying to remember a game

I think it was for the Gameboy Advanced.
I can't remember much, just a specific battle where you have to fight this beaver-like thing, but it has a hard-hat, and it's built a dam that's getting in the . . .
And I think (not sure about this part) that you can recruit monsters you defeat in some manner.
