Would like to learn how to create my own patches for eroge. Advice?

I expected to see a sticky or multiple threads on this topic, but I found nothing. If I simply missed them somehow, I apologize.

Anywho, I don't think I'm very dissimilar from most people in that I despise having to install eroge to play it. Basically, I refuse to leave a significant registry footprint on my machine for most games. As such, it's really irritating whenever I grab, say, a Black Package Try game or a Silkys game knowing that I'll have to keep the entire image with me at all times to make the damn thing work.

The reason in particular that I'm complaining about this natural order of things now is because of Monster Park 2. Trois did a really good job with it and it's become one of my favorites. What was especially awesome was that the AlphaROM cracker was enough to make it run without the need of the registry. So I was able to get rid of the original image and keep everything modular and organized.

Unfortunately, the Kanzenban version of the game (which, incidentally, requires the original game to be installed before it, itself, can be installed) was far less accommodating: the executables require a registry key to initialize. That....pissed me off. I realize I shouldn't expect any less, but I actually bought this game myself, and it makes me fume that I can't make it work the way I want it to work.

If only for this particular eroge, I would like to learn how to dig into the recesses of its files, figure out its startup routines, and create a workaround that allows me to run the game without a key.

So, what do I need to get the job done?
