:hero:So ever since the 300 drivers (I think is when it started) control panel settings have not worked. I was using older drivers but wanted to play some newer games so I updated to 314.14 and the began looking further into alternatives for anti aliasing etc. P.S. 314.14 gave a performance boost in SB3 and maybe other illusion games.
I first tried the SMAA injector which applies 1xSMAA, and while it did eliminate jaggies it did blur the usual things that are blurred by MLAA, pre antialiased things such as text and icons, some fine texture details, eyes, and eye lashes. Some bluring maybe easier seen in motion, the bluring also increases/decreases or disappears base on distance from the camera. So I messed with that a bit but the ultra setting was the best, duh I guess, cranking the shader settings to the absolute max did not improve things but instead made it look worse and caused a noticeable effect on performance and input lag. SMAA was developed to be AA for the next generation of games being affordable without causing blur. I don't think it was ever claimed that 1x wouldn't cause blur but after my disapointment with it ,(I thought it didn't cause blurring), I have become a bit paranoid about the real SMAA.
Then I checked out Sweetfx which has be ever increasing in popularity and has 1xSMAA included, also the SMAA here seems better (supposedly has an additional setting on) as the screen shots I took here seem to have much less icon blurring but I'm not sure what the deal is there. I downloaded the configurator to make things quick and easy. You can really alter colors in interesting ways. Bloom is the only graphics enhancement it seems, the other shaders just alter the colors for a different look. Vibrance at it's default of .15 is a notable one though being subtle but seeming to make the scene more full of life.:pics:Here are some images of some individual effects at defaults with SMAA applied as well.
Later I finally got around to trying out Nvidia inspector, which was much more straight forward than I thought it would be to use.:XD: I tried creating profiles with it and everything worked fine.:beautiful: I also tried out Super sampling which was removed from the control panel due to being such a huge performance hit though it can be used in older games if you have the GPU power, I managed 3x3 with out issue in SB3. I tried 4x4 too but that had a good performance hit, still a good frame rate but it brought about some nasty input lag. However I also the discovered the problem with the control panel. The control panel was using the file path for a games's name rather than its name. So when you launched game.exe it would ignore it because the control panel was checking for something like C:/folder/folder/game.exe instead. See screen shot.
And I had been hearing alot about some new AA on Nvidia's forums called SGSSAA (sparse grid Super sampling antialiasing) which is awesome! I gave it a try and was blown away although it requires working MSAA it has quality close to 4x4SSAA (tested at 1280x960) with a performance hit equal or near MSAA.:sohappy: For best comparisons you must see it in motion. You can set SGSSAA to any level you can set MSAA so 2x, 4x, 8x. SGSSAA is in the transparency section and overrides the MSAA and uses it's data that is why you must set MSAA on. See the earlier Nvidia inspector screen shot.(AF is not required and the gamma correction is a preference thing, though I read it was best to have the gamma correction part off and it used to be set to off by default but Nvidia changed that.)
Comparison screens: Look close at her hair and arm.
I need a break.:exhausted2::love:
