Now before I start I want to say the problem got fixed.... maybe, however I want to know what can I do to prevent it or find out why it keeps happening.
Okay so today my USB 2.0 ports from my case completely stopped working. Earlier last week Windows put up a notification to install the USB Controller driver so I was like "ooohhhkayyyy" So I clicked on the notification and it gave me options so I clicked on to download the driver from the mobo's manufacturer's website (ASUS), so I downloaded and I extracted the zip file and clicked on the .exe file and NOTHING HAPPENED......... So I ignored it. Then today the problem started with the 2.0 not working, so I went ASUS website to download the latest USB bios and I installed it and the problem persisted. So I check the bios when I restarted the computer to see if any of the ports were disabled and none of them were and were working fine but when I tried my mouse it would not work or install the driver from my mouse or for that matter anything else. So I decided to open up the case and unplug the usb 2.0 cable (that comes from the computer case that plugs straight to the usb header) from the motherboard and plugged in on another USB Header (they look like this if you don't know what I'm talking about), so I restarted my computer and then the two usb 2.0 ports on my case were now working fine and the mouse installed the driver so I can use it now.
Now here's the problem. This has happened before. Last time both my USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports from my case stop working, it started first with the 2.0 then the 3.0 ports stop working too. I remember last time I fixed (temp.) the 2.0 problem by again just moving the cable to another usb 2.0 header on the motherboard but later it ultimately stopped working along with the 3.0. So hours of looking through google, I tried some methods and they did not work until I remember someone mention that to just use the Bios disc that came with the motherboard when I built the computer. So I tried it and the problem got fixed, both 2.0 & 3.0 were working fine now.
So now it happened again. Which makes me wonder..... WTF is going on?!?!?!? . This time I did not installed the drivers again from the bios disc that came with the mobo.
So right now both are working fine, but can anyone here tell me what is causing this and how can I prevent this from happening? The reason I ask is because I have a strong believe that its going to happen again.
